Bankruptcy Claim

Definition

A legal assertion of a creditor’s right to payment from a bankrupt individual or entity, filed with the bankruptcy court as part of the bankruptcy proceedings to establish priority and entitlement to assets.

Example

The creditor, Smith & Brothers, has lodged a bankruptcy claim against the bankrupt company, Alta Industries, to recoup the outstanding debt, intending to be reimbursed from the liquidation proceeds of Alpha Industries’
